Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
There is a ridged match strike to one side and a chain loop from which to hang the vesta. It is a nice tactile piece of silver which sits nicely in the hand. The hinge closes with a good firm snap.

A lovely and unusual collectors item.
Hallmarked as sterling silver by the Birmingham Assay Office with the makers mark for William Aitken and date code for 1902.
Measurements: Height 4.3 cm Width: 3.6 m Depth 1.2 cm Weight 21 grams
Condition: There are surface scratches and some deeper marks towards the point of the heart, and some very tiny dints, all commensurate with age but mentioned for accuracy.
