Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kashmiri woodcarving developed as a prominent craft tradition in northern India, gaining significant popularity during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Artisans specialized in intricate relief carving, predominantly producing decorative furniture and lighting for export and the Western market during the British colonial period.

These lamps were primarily crafted from indigenous hardwoods, most notably walnut, due to its fine grain and suitability for detailed carving. Metal fittings, such as brass bulb sockets and internal wiring conduits, were integrated to accommodate electrical conversion.

Authentic pieces feature dense, hand-carved foliate motifs such as chinar leaves, lotus flowers, and vine scrolls across the entire surface. Construction marks show evidence of hand tools, turned elements on a lathe, and natural patination within the deep recesses of the carving.

A carved floor lamp functions well as a focal point in a living area or reading nook. Pair the dark timber base with a neutral linen shade to balance the intricate woodwork against contemporary furnishings.

Dust the detailed carving regularly using a soft-bristle brush or dry microfibre cloth to prevent buildup in the recessed areas. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the timber and maintain its natural lustre.
