Rare Victorian Royal Family Gift Sterling Silver Bowl 1887 Princess Louise

Description

A beautiful rare English Victorian antique solid sterling silver bowl. It is hallmarked for London 1887/88 with the maker’s marks being that of Sibray, Hall & Co (Frederick Sibray & Job Frank Hall). It has superbly designed and is unusual with the inscription reading 'ISABELLA GRANT FROM PRINCESS LOUISE XMAS 1888'. Princess Louise was the Duchess of Argyll and the sixth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the Grants were connected to Queen Victoria through Sir Patrick Grant, Isabella was his granddaughter born in 1887 this was possible a first Christmas gift to the new baby from the Royal Family. Isabella grew up to become a writer and founder of the Highland Folk Museum of Scotland. It is in superb condition being free from dings, splits. Lightly gilded inside. It measures approx. 3.75 inches (9.3cm) across the rim by 2 inches (5.2cm) across the base by 2 inches (5.1cm) tall and 72 gram. A very good quality rare and interesting piece.
