Victorian Bacchanalian Pattern Silver Sifter Spoon, 1885

Description

A fabulous Victorian silver sifter spoon in the rare and desirable Bacchanalian pattern, hallmarked London 1885. Gilt wash.

Length: 14.5 cm

Weight: 41 grams

The handle of the spoon are decorated with a classical scene of happy semi-clad revellers drinking wine within a garden landscape. They are celebrating the festival of Bacchus. The reverse of the spoon handle is further decorated with bunches of grapes and wine related objects. This Regency period pattern was originally designed by Paul Storr for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell.
