Elegant Chester 1903 Hallmarked Solid Silver Butter Dish and Matching Knife in the Original Shaped Case.

1900 - 1920
Description

Chester 1903 solid silver English hallmarked solid silver beautifully modelled shell shaped butter dish and lovely matching shaped butter knife in the original shaped and fitted case. The case bears the retailers label of an Aberdeen, Scotland goldsmith and silversmith, A & J Smith.

The silver maker was John Millward Banks.

The shell form butter dish is very well modelled and stands on 3 ball feet. The original matching hallmarked butter knife has a wide beautifully shaped blade, and a stem with twisted design and a matching shell to the terminal, echoing the dish.

The two pieces are fitted into the original gilt embellished satin and velvet lined shaped case, which protects and displays them beautifully. It is unusual to find a matching set in the original case.

Size-dish 4.25 inches long by 3 3/8 inches wide by .75 inches high. Knife is 5 inches long by .75 inches wide.

Weight-55 grams alone, and 205 grams with case.

A very stylish a functional antique silver set for the dining table, or a lovely gift. It is wonderful to get the complete original set including dish, knife and case.

Chester silver is very collectable on its own as well, as the assay office has been closed for almost 50 years.

All pieces are in very good condition.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
