Description

A large and impressive early 20th Century mahogany desk, the moulded edge top having a green leather writing surface divided into three shaped sections, the front of the desk having an arrangement of nine long graduated mahogany lined drawers with the original brass engraved swan neck handles, turned and fluted columns either side, shaped panelled sides with lovely flame mahogany veneer, the reverse of the desk having carving on each pedestal of the flag of Belize with the Latin motto “Sub Umbra Floreo” which means “I flourish in the shade” which at the time was a British colony, Supported on a plinth base. This desk was more than likely made for a high ranking official possibly to do with the Belize embassy. In excellent condition and has a lovely warm mahogany colour. Circa 1900.

Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.
