Charles Andrea Nosotti
Charles Andrea (Andrew) Nosotti (c.1798–1853) was born in or near Milan, Italy, and appears to have received his early training there before establishing himself in London. He was working in London by the 1820s and married Amelia Ruenia Garbanati in 1827, the daughter of another Italian-born London carver and gilder.

By 1829–30, Nosotti was established at 2 Dean Street, Soho, where he was described variously as a carver, gilder, upholsterer and cabinetmaker. Around 1838–40 he moved his principal operations to 398–399 Oxford Street, establishing himself in one of London's most fashionable areas for the luxury furniture and interior-decoration trade.

Nosotti's business developed from looking-glass and picture-frame manufacture into a much broader concern producing high-quality furniture, carved and gilded work, upholstery and interior decoration. His reputation for exceptionally fine workmanship is particularly significant. His firm subsequently undertook prestigious commissions and was associated with aristocratic and wealthy patrons.

One of his most notable surviving commissions was a giltwood cabinet made for the Countess of Waldegrave's drawing room at Strawberry Hill, which was exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. The firm also undertook work for John Allcroft at Stokesay Court and later collaborated with the celebrated furniture and upholstery firm Howard & Sons.

Nosotti's firm was also associated with prestigious royal and international patronage. Later descriptions record the business as being by appointment as carver and gilder to William IV and Napoleon III, while its advertising referred to the patronage of the Princess of Wales. The firm exhibited at major international exhibitions, including London in 1862 and Paris in 1867.
