Description

This dazzling Caucasian flatweave, often referred to as a Verneh ,manages to feel be both archaic and cool at the same time. Woven in five panels and then joined, the design is composed of squares in offset rows each decorated with geometric ornaments. Worked on a red plain weave background, the limited colour combination is dramatic with shades of red, yellow indigo, green and white, and touches of fuchsine. It's a mesmerising combination and a very good example of pre-commercial rural Caucasian weaving. Clean and in excellent condition.
