The George IV period, spanning from 1820 to 1830, is characterised by ornate, high-relief chasing, classical revival motifs, and heavy gauge sterling silver construction.

These items were typically fabricated from solid sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, hand-chasing, and gilding on the interior to prevent corrosion from the contents.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a duty mark indicating the reigning monarch, and a date letter.

Such small collectable items are often displayed on a desk, within a glass-topped cabinet, or styled on a tray alongside other historical curiosities to add textural interest and a narrative element to a room.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the natural patina and avoid wearing down delicate relief details, storing it in a tarnish-resistant environment.
