A carriage cushion face is the decorated front panel of a traditional woven cushion, historically used in horse-drawn carriages or sleighs in rural Scandinavia during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These pieces were typically crafted using hand-spun wool and linen yarns, employing traditional Scandinavian weaving techniques such as flatweave, tapestry, or double-interlocking weave structures to create durable and decorative surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by examining the natural dye palette, hand-spun yarn irregularities, traditional regional motifs, and the specific weave structure characteristic of 19th-century Scandinavian folk craft.

Historic textiles like cushion faces are frequently mounted behind glass in shadow boxes or stretched over canvas frames to be displayed as textile art on living room or hallway walls.

Preservation requires keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, avoiding high humidity, and consulting a professional textile conservator for specialized cleaning.
