Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1850 Regency bow front chest of drawers is constructed from warm brown mahogany, featuring flame mahogany drawer fronts cross banded in ebony, a thumb moulded white marble top, and original turned knobs. The substantial piece stands on turned feet with carved side pilasters. Natural wood grain patterns define the warm brown timber surfaces, while the solid construction includes brass key escutcheons on each drawer front. Measuring 127 cm wide, 64 cm deep, and 106 cm high, the chest provides practical storage for a bedroom, hallway, or living area. The flat marble top offers a durable display surface for lamps, decorative items, or everyday essentials, whilst the five graduated drawers accommodate clothing, linens, or household accessories.

FAQs

A Regency bow front chest is characterised by its gently curved convex front profile, which maximised floor space while offering visual softness. Popular during the early 19th century, these pieces frequently featured flame mahogany veneers, turned feet, and occasionally marble surfaces.

High-quality period examples utilised solid mahogany and cut flame mahogany veneers laid over pine or oak substrates. Decorative accents often incorporated white or grey veined marble tops, ebony inlay stringing, turned timber knobs, and brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period chests display hand-cut dovetail joinery on the drawer linings, original steel or brass lever locks, and authentic shrinkage marks on back panels. Internal drawer bottoms generally feature secondary timbers such as oak or pine rather than modern plywood.

A bow front chest functions effectively as a focal point in an entryway, living room, or bedroom, contrasting classic timber grain against contemporary art or lighting. The flat marble surface offers a durable base for displaying ceramics, glassware, or lamps.

Timber surfaces should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and treated periodically with clear beeswax polish, avoiding synthetic spray waxes. Marble tops require prompt cleaning of liquids using a pH-neutral damp cloth to prevent stone staining or etching.
