Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE VICTORIAN ERA:
Wide horizontal pine backboards: nineteenth-century country workshop joinery.
Moulded central stile between cupboard doors: traditional vernacular design.
Natural shrinkage lines between timber boards: slow drying of the wood over decades.
Scuffs and rounding around the base plinth: domestic floor-level wear.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Victorian Scots pine dresser combines an upper open shelving rack with a base unit containing three drawers and two cupboard doors. The piece is constructed from Scots pine with a warm, natural wood tone finish, complemented by simple turned wooden knobs on the drawers and raised moulding details on the central pilaster and panelled doors. Restored and refinished, the surfaces display a clean grain and traditional country joinery, with two interior shelves visible behind the open left and right lower cabinet spaces. The structure measures 198 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this functional storage item suits a kitchen, dining room, or hallway to display crockery, glassware, or decorative kitchenware on the upper tiers while concealing linens, tableware, or household items behind the lower cupboard doors and within the drawers.

A Victorian Scots pine dresser is a two-part storage cabinet crafted during the nineteenth century using Scots pine wood. Typically used in country kitchens, it combines an upper open-shelved rack for displaying crockery with a lower base comprising drawers and cupboard space.

These dressers were constructed primarily from solid native pine timber, often held together with hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and mortise-and-tenon framing. Original examples feature wooden drawer knobs, tongue-and-groove backboards, and simple iron or brass hardware.

Authentic nineteenth-century dressers display period construction markers such as hand-sawn wood marks on the back panels, uneven dovetail joints, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Patina, historical wear around handles, and original turnings also indicate genuine age.

A pine dresser can be styled in modern spaces by curating the open shelves with minimalist ceramics, neutral stoneware, or glass cookware. Pairing natural wood tones with contemporary wall colours creates balanced contrast in dining areas or kitchens.

Clean the wood using a slightly damp microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. Periodic applications of beeswax polish will protect the timber finish and maintain the natural lustre of the wood grain.
