The work depicts a cupid standing at a cottage doorway surrounded by roses, set within an oval mount under glass. Materials comprise paper, watercolour pigment, wood, and glass, finished with a gold colour and decorative relief frame mouldings. Visible details include an artist signature, a titled plaque on the mount, ornate floral vine motifs, and raised carved scrolling along the borders of the wooden frame. The painting measures 51 cm high and 31.5 cm wide. Suitable for domestic interiors, the artwork provides traditional decoration for an English Country House aesthetic. It is proportioned for placement above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway, where the framed composition brings a classic pastoral narrative into the living space. The piece hangs securely on a wall using standard picture wire or brackets affixed to the reverse.

FAQs

Art from this era frequently featured narrative genre scenes, romantic botanical detail, and classical allegory, executed with translucent washes of watercolour pigments on heavy paper.

They were commonly housed behind protective glass within acid-free card mounts featuring oval or rectangular apertures, set into gilded wooden frames with carved or molded details.

Authentic pieces exhibit distinct pencil under-drawing, natural age-related toning on rag paper, artist signatures or inscriptions, and evidence of hand-applied water-based pigments rather than mechanical print dots.

They function effectively when hung above a console table, integrated into a gallery wall with mixed media, or positioned as a focal accent in a hallway or reading area.

Position the artwork away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity to prevent fading and foxing, ensuring it remains sealed behind UV-filtering glass with museum-grade backing.
