This antique Kelardasht runner rug dates from 1890 and is a Persian tribal piece hand-woven from wool. The textile displays a colour palette of navy blue, terracotta red, cream, and green. The design features a dark indigo blue field set with two elongated geometric medallions, each containing a central box motif which is repeated at either end of the rug. It is framed by multi-layered patterned borders, including a main ivory ground border with a leaf pattern and latch-hook details. The runner has an even medium pile showing uniform wear consistent with its age, and has been hand-washed. The rug measures 261 cm high by 114 cm wide and 1 cm deep. It is suitable for normal domestic floor use and provides a decorative floor covering for hallways, long corridors, or spacious living areas in a traditional or eclectic home interior.

Kelardasht rugs originate from Northern Iran and are recognised by their sturdy weave, thick wool pile, bold geometric central medallions, and strong saturated dyes characteristic of tribal Persian weaving.

These runners are hand-knotted using hand-spun sheeps wool on a durable wool or cotton foundation, coloured using natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy hand-knotted wool construction, distinct geometric motifs such as latch-hooks or central octagonal figures, natural colour abrash variations, and soft, age-mellowed backing.

Position the runner in long corridors, narrow entryways, or alongside a bed to introduce structural colour, geometric contrast, and acoustic warmth against hard flooring like stone or timber.

Suction vacuum without a rotating brush, utilise a supportive rug pad beneath to minimise wear, rotate the rug periodically to distribute foot traffic evenly, and spot-clean immediately with neutral wool detergent.
