This William IV mahogany dressing table dates from the 19th century and is finished in a rich brown flame mahogany veneer with visible grain figures. The upper section holds an arched swivel mirror between tapered cylindrical pillars with ball finials and scrolled brass hinged candle sconces, flanked by lift-off single-drawer boxes with galleried tops. The base contains three frieze cedar-lined drawers fitted with replaced brass knobs, resting upon square back supports with moulded decoration and turned front supports topped with carved scrolls and acanthus leaf carved bases. These are united by a concave platform base with recessed carved fronts, standing on squat bun feet. The entire piece measures 155 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 68 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this dressing table provides a grand Regency surface for a bedroom or dressing room vanity arrangement. The mirror assembly can be removed to reveal a polished top underneath, allowing the lower table to function independently as a desk or console table. The polished back and concave re-entrant corners permit flexible placement away from walls, while the cedar-lined frieze drawers and removable upper boxes offer organized storage for daily essentials.

Produced between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture bridges Regency refinement and early Victorian proportions, often featuring architectural motifs, flame mahogany veneers, and carved column supports.

Craftsmen predominantly utilised solid mahogany and rich flame mahogany veneers, paired with hand-cast brass hardware, dovetail drawer joinery, and mirrored glass.

Look for carved architectural details such as Ionic capitals, original brass candle fitments, hand-sawn drawer linings, and fine dovetail joinery.

Position the piece against a neutral backdrop to emphasize the dark timber tones, pairing it with contemporary brass accent lighting or minimal ceramic vessel displays.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish periodically, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to protect the finish.
