Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Isfahan rugs originate from the city of Isfahan in central Iran, which has been a renowned centre for master weavers since the Safavid dynasty. These pieces are historically celebrated for their exceptionally fine knot density, intricate floral and pictorial compositions, and sophisticated use of colour.

Traditional Isfahan rugs are hand-knotted using high-grade wool, often accented with fine silk highlights on a cotton or silk foundation. They utilise asymmetrical Persian knots, resulting in a high knot count that allows for highly detailed curvilinear designs.

Authentic pieces are identified by examining the knot density on the reverse, the natural variations in vegetable-dyed wool, and the fineness of the curvilinear motifs such as Shah Abbasi palmettes and tree-of-life patterns. Age is typically indicated by even pile wear, oxidised dark brown areas due to iron mordants, and the characteristic supple handle of the foundation.

An antique rug can be integrated into contemporary spaces by placing it as a focal point over neutral wooden or stone flooring, allowing its rich colours and detailed iconography to contrast with minimalist furniture. It works well in living rooms, studies, or bedrooms to add texture, warmth, and historical depth.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional hand-washing by specialists in textile conservation, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight to prevent dye fading. Using a breathable underlay helps prevent slippage and reduces friction wear against the floor.
