Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large decorative brass bowl dates from 1920 and follows a Neoclassical Revival style with a grand Regency design vibe. The piece presents a warm gold colour across its polished brass construction, featuring a dark interior. Details include a flared rim, a stepped pedestal base, and twin angular handles adorned with lower scroll terminals. The surface exhibits minor dark blemishes and tarnish around the inner upper rim, alongside subtle manufacturing variations on the bowl body. It measures 71 cm wide, 52 cm high, and 40 cm deep. In a modern interior, this item sits on a sideboard top to function as a decorative focal point. The bowl accommodates large floral arrangements, serves as a champagne bucket, or acts as a coal bucket.

FAQs

Historically, large brass pedestal bowls served multiple functions in wealthy households, including acting as wine coolers, table centrepieces, or planters for indoor foliage.

Traditional brass urns were typically cast or hand-hammered from copper and zinc alloys, often featuring brazed or riveted handles and a weighted base for stability.

Authentic pieces often display minor surface irregularities, hand-joined seams, subtle colour variations in the metal, and signs of genuine oxidisation on internal surfaces.

Position the vessel as a focal point on a sideboard, dining table, or console table, using it as a standalone sculptural object or filling it with dried botanicals.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a specialised brass polish periodically while avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners.
