The piece pairs a grey marble top with warm brown timber construction, incorporating figured parquetry veneers and elaborate gilt metal handles, keyhole escutcheons, corner mounts and a decorative apron above cabriole legs. The visual presentation includes visible marks to the surface and minor wear to the veneer, reflecting its age. The chest measures 110 x 55 x 82 cm. It offers three graduated drawers decorated with marquetry inlay details and ormolu mounts, designed in a French chateau style to suit traditional interior settings.

FAQs

Originating in the 18th century, Louis XV style furniture features curved silhouettes, rococo influence, asymmetry, and decorative veneer work. Reiterations from the late 19th century continued these traditions using rich woods, cast metal mounts, and stone tops.

These pieces typically feature solid timber construction veneered with woods such as walnut, rosewood, or kingwood, complemented by marble slab tops and cast brass or ormolu mounts.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-fitted dovetail joinery, age-appropriate wear to the timber finish, natural patination on metal mounts, and hand-cut stone surfaces.

Position the piece as a focal point in an entryway or living room, balancing its detailed woodwork by hanging a modern painting or contemporary mirror directly above it.

Clean the marble surface using a damp cloth with pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic cleaning solutions. Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically.
