This long and deep upholstered sofa follows a late 17th or early 18th century Louis XIV design, produced around 1890 in walnut and beech with a dark brown finish. The high backrest and seat are upholstered in a patterned red damask fabric with brass studded detail along the edges, giving a faded antique appearance with minor staining and a few missing studs. The piece incorporates carved arm supports, legs with exaggerated scroll carved detail, and an ornate front frieze with open scroll and fern decorated carving linked by scrolled stretchers. The sofa measures 183 cm in length, 92 cm in depth, and 98 cm in height, providing ample seating for a living room, study, or drawing room. It functions effectively as a formal seating option in traditional interiors, though the seat base and cushion would benefit from eventual reupholstery.

Louis XIV style furniture is distinguished by symmetrical forms, rigorous proportions, intricate scroll carving, elaborately worked stretchers, and heavy wood construction often using walnut or giltwood.

Frames were predominantly crafted from solid carved hardwoods such as walnut or beech, with internal padding comprised of horsehair, webbed support systems, and woven silk or wool damask upholstery.

Authentic revival pieces exhibit hand-carved detail with subtle variations, period-appropriate joinery such as mortise and tenon construction, and natural oxidisation on untouched wood surfaces.

A Louis XIV style sofa serves as a central focal point when set against neutral wall backdrops, paired with minimalist secondary seating to allow the carved timber detailing to stand out.

Keep the sofa positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid drying out the timber; polish walnut elements with clear beeswax and gently vacuum fabric using a brush attachment.
