This antique camel trapping stems from the Baluch tribes of the Khorasan Province in North-East Persia, dating to 1880 during the second half of the nineteenth century. The handwoven wool textile displays a deep red, madder-red and navy blue ground with geometric diamond motifs, complemented by small edge fringes, an indigo ground band, and long multicoloured braided wool tassels in shades of red, blue, brown, white, and yellow at both ends. It measures 112 cm high by 25 cm wide including the tassels, with the piled section measuring 56 cm by 25 cm. Position this tribal textile on a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or study to introduce texture and pattern to an interior. The piece integrates into bohemian or eclectic decorative schemes as a wall hanging, offering a traditional Persian tribal aesthetic.

A Baluch camel trapping is a decorative handwoven textile created by nomadic Baluch tribes, traditionally used to adorn camels during ceremonial processions and tribal migrations.

These trappings are hand-knotted and hand-woven using hand-spun wool yarn dyed with natural vegetable pigments, often incorporating flat-weave kilim technique alongside pile weaving and braided tassels.

Authentic Baluch pieces feature characteristic dark colour palettes dominated by deep reds, dark blues, and browns, along with geometric latch-hook or diamond motifs, soft wool, and original woollen fringe detailing.

These textiles are frequently displayed as decorative wall hangings, mounted in custom frames, or laid across surface tops such as sideboards to add texture and historical interest.

Keep the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, vacuum gently using suction only without a rotating brush, and consult a professional rug restorer for specialized cleaning.
