Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Georgian chest of drawers dates from the period of King George I to George IV (17141830) and is typically characterised by symmetrical proportions, hand-dovetailed drawer construction, primary use of dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, and classical brass hardware.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid mahogany or thick mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcass frames. Drawers were constructed using hand-cut dovetail joints, pine or oak drawer linings, and were finished with cast brass swan-neck handles and steel locks.

Authentic pieces feature irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels, natural wear around keyholes and handles, and original brassware with cast backplates showing subtle surface inconsistencies from historic manufacturing methods.

A Georgian mahogany chest works well as a focal piece in modern hallways, bedrooms, or dining spaces. Anchoring the piece with minimalist ceramics, modern artwork above, or a sleek table lamp creates a balanced contrast between historical timber and contemporary design elements.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the item near direct heat sources or sunlight, and nourish the timber using a natural beeswax polish applied thinly along the grain twice a year.
