This nineteenth-century Victorian chest of drawers uses flame mahogany veneer over solid timber in a rich brown tone. The piece takes the form of a low rectangular chest with rounded corners and a polished finish, incorporating two short drawers positioned above two long drawers. Each drawer utilizes matching turned wooden knobs, while the carcase displays rounded moulding around the drawer fronts and edges. Short turned feet fitted with white porcelain castors support the front corners. Measuring 75 cm high, 121.3 cm wide, and 55.3 cm deep, this item provides practical storage capacity within living areas or bedrooms. The low height allows placement underneath windows or against shorter wall spaces in a traditional home.

A nineteenth-century flame mahogany chest of drawers is a wooden storage cabinet produced during the Victorian era, characterized by cut veneers taken from the crotch of the mahogany tree to create a distinctive flame-like pattern across the drawer fronts.

These pieces were built with solid timber carcasses, often pine or oak for internal drawer linings, faced with high-grade mahogany and decorative flame mahogany cut veneers. Handles were frequently carved from solid mahogany or cast in brass.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original brass or iron mortise locks, secondary woods such as pine or oak inside the drawers, and natural age-related patination across the timber surfaces.

Position the chest against a neutral or rich dark wall to complement the timber tones, and top it with contemporary artwork, ceramic lamps, or modern decorative accessories to balance classic and modern aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, veneer lifting, or bleaching.
