Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian dressing chests typically feature solid timber or veneered drawer fronts, rounded carcase edges, turned wooden handles, and decorative gallery upstands. Introduced during the nineteenth century, these pieces served as functional bedroom storage while exhibiting popular period woodworking techniques.

Chests from this era were primarily constructed using solid pine or oak carcase frames faced with rich timber veneers, such as flame mahogany or walnut. Drawers featured hand-cut dovetail joints, solid drawer linings, turned timber knobs, and cast iron or brass lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, irregular tool marks on unexposed rear boards, original brass or iron locks, and natural timber shrinkage over time. The drawer fronts often exhibit highly figure-matched flame mahogany veneers paired with turned wooden handles attached via internal threadings.

A dark mahogany chest provides visual grounding when paired against light, modern wall paint shades such as off-white, beige, or soft sage green. Balance the warm timber tones by styling the top surface with contemporary ceramics, minimal lighting fixtures, or framed modern artwork.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood finish. Position the furniture away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish bleaching.
