This nineteenth-century Victorian collectors Wellington chest of drawers combines a compact cabinet with seven graduated drawers, a hinged side-locking pillar, and turned wooden drawer knobs set on a plinth base. The warm brown flame mahogany timber exhibits a faded grain, finished with a clean wax polish. Visible details include a brass keyhole escutcheon on the locking flap, linear top mouldings, and simple stepped feet at the base. Measuring 60 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, this small piece sits easily on a desk, tabletop, or floor in a study, library, or hallway. It functions effectively for storing small collections, writing accessories, or everyday items in a modern home.

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow chest of drawers named after the First Duke of Wellington, featuring a hinged side flap that swings across to lock all drawers simultaneously with a single key.

Victorian Wellington chests were predominantly constructed using solid timber frames faced with figured veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, accompanied by turned timber handles and brass lock mechanisms.

Authentic period examples feature a functional hinged side locking flap, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original turned wooden knobs, and natural timber patina from age.

Due to its tall, narrow footprint, a Wellington chest fits well into hallway alcoves, home offices, or dressing rooms, where the top surface can host minimalist table lamps or decorative ceramics.

Clean regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year, ensuring placement remains away from direct radiators to avoid timber shrinkage.
