This antique runner rug is a hand-knotted wool and cotton corridor carpet made by Lori-Bakhtiari tribes in the Chahar Mahal region of western Persia around 1880, designed in a Persian tribal style with English country house appeal. The piece displays a cream and ivory central field filled with repeating boteh and scarab motifs, framed by a wide slate petrol-blue geometric main border and golden-yellow guard stripes with additional red and dark blue patterning, retaining its original brocaded ends and showing an excellent pile overall with no restoration. Practical in dimension for a generous hallway, the runner measures 406 cm high and 182 cm wide. It suits placement as a striking floor covering in a spacious hallway, long landing, or wide corridor of a traditional home today.

Lori-Bakhtiari carpets originate from the Chahar Mahal region in West Persia, hand-woven by nomadic tribes and settled villagers known for bold geometric motifs and robust knotting techniques.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using a durable wool pile on a cotton or wool foundation, utilising natural plant and mineral dyes for rich colouration.

Authentic pieces display natural dye variations known as abrash, slight structural irregularities inherent to hand-loom weaving, and visible hand-bound selvages.

Position a long corridor carpet in entryways, hallways, or narrow galleries to add texture, warmth, and visual linear length against timber or stone flooring.

Vacuum regularly without a rotating beater bar, rotate periodically to ensure even wear, use a quality underlay, and clean with specialist textile conservators when required.
