This antique Turkish Konya Karapinar village rug dates from 1920 and follows an Anatolian style in camel wool. The piece presents a plain camel wool field incorporating varied shades where fleece from different animals combines, centred by a large turquoise and powder blue stepped medallion flanked by two smaller octagonal medallions featuring star motifs, all enclosed within an ivory ground border decorated with repeated star patterns and fringe endings at both ends. The soft colour palette spans natural camel, turquoise, terracotta, and ivory tones throughout the hand-knotted pile. The floor covering measures 194 cm high by 134 cm wide by 1 cm deep, exhibiting slight even wear alongside a soft pile. Suitable for normal domestic use, this rug functions well as a floor covering in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, bringing traditional warmth and texture to interior spaces.

Konya Karapinar rugs originate from Central Anatolia, known for geometric medallions, tribal motifs, and the use of natural undyed camel wool alongside soft vegetable-dyed yarns.

These rugs are hand-knotted using wool or camel hair pile tied onto a wool warp and weft, typically utilising the double symmetrical Gordes knot.

Look for subtle variations in knot alignment, natural abrash colour shifts throughout the pile, and soft, pliable backings showing hand-knotted textile structures rather than rigid synthetic backings.

Position the rug as a grounding textile beneath contemporary neutral furniture or layer it over plain flatweave floor coverings to add visual texture.

Vacuum gently using a suction-only attachment without a rotating beater bar, rotate regularly to ensure balanced wear, and clean spills promptly with neutral soap and water.
