Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This authentic antique nomadic tribal Baluch prayer rug dates from 1890 and is constructed entirely from wool with a hand-knotted pile. The piece displays a rustic country house shabby chic aesthetic, featuring noticeable distress, low pile wear, end losses, and side cord wear. The design incorporates a rectilinear mihrab prayer arch, geometric tree motifs, and column borders rendered in terracotta red, indigo, and deep brown. Fringed ends complete the textile. Measuring 150 cm high, 90 cm wide, and 0.5 cm deep, this item suits placement on floors within rustic or eclectic interiors. It functions effectively as a decorative accent rug in a living room, hallway, or bedroom where a worn antique textile adds character to the space.

FAQs

Baluch prayer rugs are hand-woven textiles traditionally crafted by nomadic Baluch tribes across Iran and Afghanistan, featuring distinct geometric arch motifs known as mihrabs.

These rugs are typically hand-knotted using locally sourced sheep wool for the pile, warp, and weft, often incorporating goat hair side finishes and natural plant-based dyes.

Authentic pieces generally feature soft hand-spun wool, a dark colour palette of rust red, indigo, and deep brown, along with subtle asymmetrical variations inherent to tribal hand-weaving.

Layering a small tribal rug over neutral woven flooring or placing it in an entryway adds tactile texture, visual warmth, and historic character to modern or bohemian interior schemes.

Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting without a rotary beater bar, blot spills immediately with an absorbent dry cloth, and use a quality underlay pad to minimise wear.
