This antique Ersari Turkoman 15 gul chuval face, dating from around 1900, is a hand-knotted wool storage bag panel displaying fifteen stepped octagonal guls arranged in three vertical rows across a deep rust-red field. The central field contains repeating geometric medallions alongside vertical column motifs, enclosed by multiple guard borders filled with alternating geometric patterns and hooked elements in indigo blue and cream. An old paper label adheres near the upper margin. Signs of age include small worn patches within the pile, frayed fringes along the top and bottom edges, and minor holes with historic repairs. Measuring 90 cm high and 130 cm wide, this rectangular tribal weaving functions practically as a decorative floor rug, a wall-hanging textile, or a collectors piece in a traditional study, hallway, or living space. The dense wool construction provides a durable hand-knotted pile suited for display away from heavy foot traffic to preserve the antique condition. The rich colour palette combines deep madder red tones with contrasting accents in dark blue and off-white throughout the intricate geometric framework.

A chuval face is the hand-knotted front decorative panel of a large storage bag traditionally woven by nomadic Ersari Turkoman tribes of Central Asia for yurt transport and storage.

These textiles are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool yarns on a wool warp and weft foundation, utilizing natural plant and insect dyes to achieve rich terracotta, indigo, and red shades.

Authentic Ersari weavings feature stepped octagonal tribal motifs called guls, asymmetric knots open to the right, soft handle, and natural madder-dyed colour variations.

These woven panels are frequently mounted as wall hangings, framed as textile art, re-covered as large floor cushions, or layered over neutral flat-weave carpets.

Clean gently using a suction-only vacuum without a rotating brush bar, position away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent dye degradation, and consult specialist conservators for wash restoration.
