Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This quality antique figured walnut sideboard server dates from 1910 and follows the Queen Anne Revival style. It has a warm brown colour with pronounced figured walnut grain throughout, brass bail handles with backplates, and teal blue fabric tassels hanging from the cupboard doors. The piece includes a carved shell motif on the upstand and lower apron, decorative crossbanding on the drawers, turned legs terminating in bun feet, and shaped stretchers uniting the base. The overall dimensions measure 125.7 cm high, 183.5 cm wide, and 62.3 cm deep. Practical storage space comprises two central drawers positioned between two side cupboards, providing ample room for dinnerware and table linen in a dining room or living space. The heavy timber construction and traditional English country house appearance suit formal entertaining areas or domestic settings requiring display surfaces and concealed storage. The condition is very good, with clean grain patterns and intact hardware.

FAQs

Queen Anne Revival sideboards typically feature book-matched figured veneers, cabriole or turned legs, shell carvings, and graceful curved splashbacks. Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these pieces draw inspiration from early 18th-century English cabinetmaking.

High-quality sideboards from this era were primarily constructed using walnut, mahogany, or oak, often finished with decorative burr or figured wood veneers. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, supported by solid brass handles and drop pulls.

Examine the drawer construction for hand-cut dovetail joints, check for natural wear on the timber runners, and look for original brass hardware with aged patina. Authentic pieces display variation in the natural grain pattern and signs of historical hand-planing on secondary surfaces.

Position the sideboard as a statement storage piece in a dining room, hallway, or living area, balancing its rich timber tones against neutral walls. Complement the surface with contemporary ceramics, minimalist table lamps, or a large framed mirror mounted directly above.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and fading. Clean surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth, and apply a light coating of natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood.
