FAQs

Edwardian iron and brass beds emerged in the early 20th century, characterised by lighter proportions compared to Victorian predecessors, combining painted iron frames with polished brass rails and finials.

These beds typically utilised heavy-duty cast and wrought iron for the structural framework and main spindles, accented with solid brass tubing, cast brass mounts, and decorative finials.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-poured iron joints, traditional wedge-lock fixings, makers stamps, and natural signs of age such as minor surface oxidisation on the metal components.

Pairing a dark metal bed frame with crisp neutral linens, textured throws, and minimalist lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional and contemporary aesthetics.

Clean the painted iron frame regularly with a dry cloth and use specialised non-abrasive brass cleaner cautiously on the metal mounts to maintain the finish without damaging the patina.
