An early 18th century oak chest of drawers is a foundational storage item from the Georgian or late Stuart period, typically characterised by heavy timber construction and simple, functional lines before the dominance of mahogany.

These pieces were constructed primarily from solid English oak, frequently utilizing hand-cut dovetail joints for the drawers, frame and panel construction, and pegged joints, complemented by brass drop handles and escutcheons.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, handmade iron or brass fixings, natural timber oxidisation, tool marks, and shrinkage cracks consistent with age.

An antique oak chest anchors a contemporary space by introducing warmth and tactile grain, working well against neutral walls with minimal contemporary styling such as a simple ceramic vase or a modern mirror above.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity away from direct heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber without sealing it.
