FAQs

Pedestal desks evolved during the 18th century and became widely popular in the Victorian era, designed primarily for studies and libraries to provide ample surface workspace and secure document storage.

Authentic period desks are constructed from solid timbers such as mahogany or walnut, featuring dovetailed drawer construction, hand-tooled leather writing inserts, and brass hardware.

Authentication involves inspecting the secondary woods, examining hand-cut dovetails, checking for appropriate wear patterns around the handles, and looking for period-correct timber shrinkage and oxidisation.

Pairing a dark wood pedestal desk with contemporary minimalist seating and modern minimalist lighting creates a balanced study space that highlights the pieces historical craftsmanship.

Maintain wood with micro-crystalline wax and avoid silicone polishes. Protect the leather insert by dusting gently and applying a specialized leather balsam periodically to prevent cracking.
