FAQs

Historical carved wooden beds often feature ornate relief carvings, panelled headboards and footboards, and robust timber construction characteristic of revivalist or traditional European cabinet-making traditions.

These beds were predominantly constructed from heavy hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and mahogany, often utilizing traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining tool marks, timber shrinkage, period-appropriate joinery, oxidisation of the wood, and hand-carved details rather than machine-moulded resin or modern fasteners.

Pairing a heavy antique bed frame with crisp neutral linens, minimalist bedside lighting, and contemporary rugs creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich timber textures.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, keeping the timber out of direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the antique finish without building up heavy residues.
