Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This French Empire style Art Deco double bed dates from the 1900 period and is constructed from burr walnut veneer, walnut veneer, brass, and wood with a warm brown colour. The tall, shaped headboard displays a book-matched grain pattern finished with gilt metal mounts and ormolu ribbon detailing along the top edge and corners. The curved footboard mirrors the warm tones and rich figure of the timber, standing on turned wooden feet. A quilted, diamond-patterned cover in pale cream rests on the original pine slats inside the wooden frame. Measuring 150 cm high, 155 cm wide, and 201 cm deep, the bed accommodates a standard five-foot double mattress. It is suited for placement in a master bedroom or guest room as a functional centrepiece offering period character and decorative presence.

FAQs

French Empire and Art Deco bed frames combine classical proportions with geometric elegance. Key hallmarks include rich wood veneers such as burr walnut, curved or arched silhouettes, and subtle gilt metal mounts.

These beds were typically constructed using a solid hardwood framework overlaid with highly figured burr walnut veneers. Details often featured decorative ormolu or cast brass mounts and hand-finished French polish.

Authentic pieces feature genuine hand-matched veneer graining, traditional mortise and tenon joinery on the side rails, and age-appropriate wear or oxidisation on hardware mounts.

Pair the rich brown wood tones with crisp white or neutral linen bedding to create contrast. Incorporate contemporary lighting and minimalist decor to allow the patterned timber grain to act as the primary focal point.

Regularly dust the wooden surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Keep the bed away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking or colour fading.
