Club fenders originated in Victorian and Edwardian British country houses, designed to provide comfortable seating close to the fire while keeping drafts away from occupants.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed with a solid brass or iron frame, featuring spindles or balustrades, and topped with buttoned or plain leather upholstered pads, often in green, brown, or red hide.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy gauge brass construction, hand-tacked leather upholstery, traditional joinery methods, and natural age-related patina on the metal.

They function as practical fireside seating and architectural features, anchoring a living room fireplace while adding traditional British character to contemporary or transitional schemes.

Clean the brass with a non-abrasive metal polish to maintain or reduce patina as desired, and treat the leather periodically with a neutral conditioning wax to prevent drying and cracking.
