Description

Gents antique silver wrist watch, 1925.

The watch has a 15-jewel A Schild calibre 331 hand-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London (import mark), 1925, with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case has a small indentation between the top lugs, and some unevenness to the hinged back.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial has some hairline cracks although short and fairly faint.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Date of Manufacture

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this Antique Silver Wristwatch to the 1920s.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Wristwatches from the 1920s evolved from pocket watches and trench watches, typically featuring round silver cases, enamel dials, and wire lugs to accommodate leather straps.

These timepieces commonly utilised sterling silver for the case, white enamel or porcelain for the dial, blued steel hands, and genuine leather for the strap.

Authenticity is verified by examining the inner case back for British hallmark stamps, checking the mechanical hand-wound movement for period-correct construction, and inspecting the dial for age-appropriate patina.

A vintage timepiece adds subtle sophistication to formal or smart-casual attire, functioning as a refined daily accessory or a statement piece for special occasions.

Regular servicing by a professional horologist is essential, alongside keeping the mechanical movement away from moisture and extreme magnetic fields to ensure longevity.
