The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century as a reaction to the curving excess of Rococo, favouring neoclassical symmetry, straight lines, and classical motifs.

These frames were typically carved from hardwoods such as beech or oak, then coated with a thin layer of gold leaf or gesso using traditional water-gilding or oil-gilding techniques.

Authenticity is assessed through hand-carved details, traditional joinery methods, the weight and wear of the gilt finish, and period-appropriate upholstery webbing and horsehair stuffing.

This piece can serve as a focal point in a contemporary living room by pairing it with minimalist furniture and neutral walls to let the ornate craftsmanship stand out.

Giltwood requires delicate dusting with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding moisture and harsh cleaning chemicals, while velvet upholstery should be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment.
