Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian mahogany twin pedestal partners desk brings traditional character to a gentleman's library or a home study. The piece consists of a warm brown timber frame paired with a brown leather writing surface, finished with gold tooling and surrounded by a wide crossbanded border. Nine small drawers are fitted across the top and down the twin pedestals, each secured with a small keyhole escutcheon and operated via matching turned wooden knob handles. Simple plinth bases support the heavy structure directly on the ground. Decorative gilt tooling, turned wooden knobs, and flush drawer mouldings are clearly visible across the entire frontage. Practical workspace surfaces and multiple storage drawers make the desk suitable for everyday paperwork and organisation in a traditional study. The desk measures 79 cm high, 157 cm wide, and 104 cm deep overall. It is offered in a state requiring full restoration work to bring the wood and leather back to a finished standard. The sturdy configuration stands ready for professional repair and subsequent daily use within a period interior.

FAQs

A partners desk is a double-sided pedestal desk designed in the nineteenth century to allow two banking or business partners to work facing each other simultaneously.

These desks were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, featuring gold-tooled leather inserts on the writing surface and brass or turned wooden drawer handles.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original castors concealed within the plinth base, and drawers or cupboards mirrored on both sides of the pedestals.

Position the desk centrally in a home office or study to showcase its double-sided construction, pairing it with a contemporary desk lamp and neutral wall tones to balance the deep wood hues.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish along the grain, while cleaning the leather skiver with a specialised leather balm to prevent drying and cracking.
