An 18th century delft charger is a large tin-glazed earthenware plate, typically produced in England, the Netherlands, or other European centres, featuring hand-painted designs often influenced by Chinese porcelain.

Delftware is crafted from a buff-coloured clay body covered with an opaque white tin glaze, onto which cobalt blue pigments are hand-painted before a final kiln firing.

Authentic pieces typically feature characteristic glaze fritting along the rims, fine crazing in the tin glaze, pale earthenware visible on unglazed foot rings, and hand-painted brushwork with natural pigment variations.

These decorative plates can be mounted securely on walls using specialised hangers, displayed upright on plate stands within shelving units, or featured on mantelpieces to add historic pattern and texture to interior spaces.

To preserve antique delftware, keep it away from direct sunlight and high humidity, clean only with a dry or lightly dusted soft cloth, and avoid submerging in water due to the porous nature of the historic earthenware body.
