Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian desks are characterised by substantial craftsmanship, historical revival influences, and the use of rich timbers such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, often featuring elaborate mouldings and turned or carved details.

Pedestal desks are traditionally constructed using a solid timber frame with high-grade veneers, such as burr walnut or flame mahogany, applied to the exterior surfaces. Drawers typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints and solid secondary woods like oak or pine.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetailing in the drawers, uniform shrinkage and oxidisation of the timber, and hand-forged or cast brass hardware rather than modern machine-made fittings.

Pairing a traditional wooden desk with modern, minimalist seating and contemporary lighting creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain of the timber while maintaining a balanced, functional workspace.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the timber and veneer from drying out. Clean regularly with a soft, dry cloth and periodically nourish the wood with a quality traditional beeswax.
