Lakai embroidery originates from the Lakai people, a Uzbek Laki group residing in Central Asia, renowned for their vibrant, geometric silk embroidery used in horse trappings and household furnishings.

These pieces typically feature hand-spun cotton or wool foundations, densely embroidered using silk threads in surface couch-work or chain stitches, often finished with handmade tassels or fringe.

Authenticity is determined by examining the natural dye variations in the silk threads, hand-spun backing fabrics, traditional motifs such as boteh or pish, and consistent irregularities typical of nomadic handwork.

Such textiles can be mounted professionally on linen backings and framed as wall art, or draped over a plain surface to introduce rich cultural texture and pattern to a modern space.

To preserve these fragile items, keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, avoid humid environments, and refrain from hanging them in ways that place undue stress on the fabric.
