Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian chiffonier originates from 1850 and is fashioned from mahogany with flame mahogany veneer, presenting a warm brown colour with rich figuring across the timbers. The upper section includes a scroll-carved backboard with a raised shelf supported by carved swan neck brackets. Below the serving top, the base contains two drawers positioned above a pair of cupboard doors featuring arched panels. Flanking the lower doors are shaped vertical mouldings, and the entire structure rests upon a solid plinth base with visible grain patterns throughout the polished surfaces. Practical storage capacity makes this piece suitable for daily organisation in a dining room, living area or hallway. The furniture measures 137 cm high, 107 cm wide and 46 cm deep, with the serving top sitting at a height of 87 cm. Placement within a home provides a traditional focal point for displaying ceramics, books or decorative objects on the upper shelf while concealing household items within the enclosed lower cupboards. The classical proportions and dark wood tones integrate easily into various interior settings ranging from formal historic rooms to eclectic modern spaces.

FAQs

Originating in the early nineteenth century, a chiffonier is a small sideboard featuring cupboards below and often a raised shelf or carved backboard above, primarily designed for dining room or drawing room storage.

Chiffoniers were typically built using solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood framing, frequently adorned with flame mahogany or burr veneers, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and brass locks.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-cut joinery, original brass hardware, secondary timber like pine or oak for interior drawer linings, and natural age-related patina or oxidisation on the wood reverse.

An antique chiffonier functions effectively in modern entryways, living rooms, or dining spaces as a focal storage cabinet beneath contemporary artwork or paired with minimalist lighting.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement.
