This walnut writing table dates from 1920 and follows a Chippendale style, finished in warm brown tones with a polished timber grain. The structure incorporates cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet, carved shells on the knees, and an inset green leather writing surface surrounded by crossbanding, carved mouldings, and hand-applied gilt and blind tooling. Five working drawers provide storage, each fitted with burr walnut centre panels, walnut crossbanding, inlaid herringbone detail, original locks, and brass drop handles. The freestanding design measures 76 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 76 cm deep. Positioned in a study, home office, or gentleman's library, the desk serves as a functional workspace for writing, computer use, or administrative tasks. The compact rectangular proportions allow the piece to float centrally in a room or sit against a wall while offering comfortable knee clearance beneath the central drawer arch.

A Chippendale style writing table is modelled after mid-18th-century designs by Thomas Chippendale, characterised by cabriole legs, ornate carved knees, claw-and-ball feet, and structured drawer layouts.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany, often featuring decorative burr wood veneers, brass backplate handles, and a tooled leather inset writing surface.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original cast brass hardware, hand-carved leg decoration, and natural aging or oxidisation on internal timber surfaces.

Place the table as a central focal point in a dedicated study or library, pairing it with a tailored modern desk chair and contemporary desk lamps to balance traditional carved details with clean contemporary lines.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax once or twice a year, while treating the leather insert with a specialist leather balsam to prevent cracking.
