The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, marking an era when Japanese metalworkers achieved international acclaim at world expositions through unprecedented technical mastery in casting and patination.

Artisans primarily used copper alloys, specifically traditional bronzes and shibuichi, employing lost-wax casting techniques alongside complex chemical patination methods to achieve deep, rich surface colours.

Authentic pieces often feature finely hand-chiselled surface details, artist signatures or foundry seals on the base, and stable, aged patinas that show natural signs of oxidisation over time.

Display the vessel as a solitary sculptural focal point on a wooden console or mantlepiece, allowing its dark metallic tones and tactile surface to contrast with clean, neutral modern architecture.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical polishes, abrasives, or water, as these can strip the historic patina and permanently damage the metal surface.
