Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Swedish country storage bench is constructed from pine with an original distressed muted yellow paint finish that shows visible wear and age across its wooden surfaces. The design includes a shaped, contoured backrest, high rolled armrests, and an enclosed storage trough with an open seat box resting upon four curved bracket feet. The painted pine timber displays an aged patina with natural grain variation and surface distress throughout. The piece measures 103 cm high, 208 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. Placed in a hallway, boot room, or rustic living space, it provides both practical seating once upholstered and concealed storage for household items.

FAQs

Historically known as a slagbank, a Swedish storage bench is a traditional piece of Scandinavian country furniture designed to provide both seating and concealed storage, frequently used in rural homes during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

These benches were primarily handcrafted from native softwoods such as pine or spruce, utilizing mortise and tenon joinery, shaped backrests, and hand-applied milk paint or distemper finishes.

Authentic period examples exhibit natural wear patterns around high-contact areas, layered paint historical surfaces, traditional hand-cut joinery, and natural wood shrinkage consistent with long-term aging.

An antique painted bench functions effectively in an entrance hall or dining space, where its architectural silhouette and original patina complement contemporary interiors and neutral colour palettes.

Maintain original painted finishes by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or liquid polishes, and keeping the item in a environment with stable humidity levels.
