This Georgian wash copper serves as a log bin, originating from around 1800. The piece takes a tapered cylindrical shape constructed from copper and iron with an aged copper colour and dark patination. Visible details include a rolled rim, hand-set vertical riveted seams down the side, and rows of smaller rivets securing the base. The surface displays natural wear and tonal variation from age. Dimensions are 39.5 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Position this substantial container beside a fireplace hearth in an English country house interior to hold firewood. The interior volume provides capacity for daily logs while the metal construction withstands hearthside use.

A Georgian copper log bin is a heavy metal storage vessel produced during the 18th and early 19th centuries, designed to hold firewood, kindling, or coal near a fireplace hearth.

These bins were typically hand-crafted from sheet copper, shaped into cylindrical forms, and secured with heavy copper or iron rivets along overlapping seams and reinforced rolled edges.

Authentic Georgian copperware features irregular hand-hammered surface textures, hand-set rivets, heavy gauge metal, dovetailed or brazed seams, and dark aged patination built up over time.

An antique copper bin can be placed beside a fireplace hearth to contain kindling, used in an entryway to hold walking sticks, or repurposed as a indoor planter.

To preserve the naturally developed surface oxidisation and dark patina, wipe the vessel with a dry soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemical metal polishes.
