Description

A superb original Art Deco period two seater sofa with some lovely details. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is amazing, this is extremely comfortable and has a very striking design. The arms are solid mahogany and have inset circular holes that are also lined in mahogany. This took some great skill to make and it has a very unique look.

The condition is superb, we have had the wood completely stripped and re-polished, this has also been fully re-upholstered in our cream cotton fabric with plump, feather filled cushions. We also have the matching pair of armchairs available separately, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco design originated in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and a combination of traditional and modern materials.

Art Deco furniture frequently utilised exotic wood veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and burl, combined with high-quality upholstery fabrics, leather, and occasional chrome or brass accents.

Authentication involves examining construction techniques, joinery, materials, and verifying maker marks or labels typical of the 1920s to 1940s manufacturing period.

Such pieces serve as focal points in contemporary spaces, pairing well with neutral colour palettes, metallic accents, and minimalist surroundings to highlight their distinctive silhouettes.

Preservation requires keeping wooden elements out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, dusting regularly, and using specialist cleaners appropriate for the specific fabric or leather upholstery.
