Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1910s:
Arts and Crafts style brass backplates and drop handles: fittings from the period.
Prominent medullary rays in the quarter-sawn oak: quality timber selection.
Hand-cut dovetails on the drawer linings: traditional bench joinery.
Brass cup castors fitted to tapering legs: typical early 20th-century mounting.
Three-piece inset leather top: standard layout for a double-sided partners desk.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large light oak pedestal partners desk originates from the 1910 period in the style of Heals. The timber presents a light brown colour complemented by a green leather inset top detailed with gold tooling. Brass drop handles are fitted to the multiple drawers, which are arranged with drawers on one side and drawers alongside cupboards on the reverse, supported by small castors. The desk measures 77 cm high, 152 cm wide and 120 cm deep, with a kneehole height of 60 cm. Suitable for a gentleman's library or a home study, this pedestal desk provides generous workspace and practical storage. The twin pedestals stand directly on the floor, offering a stable foundation for everyday writing and administrative tasks within a domestic interior.

FAQs

A partners desk is a large freestanding writing table designed with twin pedestals, historically constructed to allow two people to work while seated opposite each other.

Traditional pedestal desks are commonly constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring brass hardware fittings and an inset leather writing surface.

Authentic period examples generally display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original brass handles or drop pulls, castors beneath the base, and gold leaf tooling along the leather top edge.

Position the desk centrally within a home office or study to highlight its complete finished profile on all sides, pairing it with neutral walls and contemporary task lighting.

Dust the timber framework with a dry cloth, apply natural wax polish occasionally along the grain, and clean the leather inset using specialist leather care products to preserve the surface.
