This George I chest on stand is an English Country House piece from the Georgian period, dating from circa 1720. It is constructed from walnut and boxwood, finished with a warm brown colour, oyster veneering, and feather banding across the two-part top and bottom sections. The upper section contains five graduated drawers with brass drop handles and central keyhole escutcheons, while the lower section includes a central small drawer flanked by two side drawers above a shaped apron. The piece stands on original cabriole legs with pad feet, and features visible grain patterns on the drawer fronts and borders of boxwood stringing. Dimensions are 147 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this chest on stand provides practical storage for a bedroom, dressing room, hallway, or living area. It serves as a statement storage chest or a decorative side unit, accommodating folded garments, accessories, or linens. The elevated stance and compact footprint allow it to fit against a wall in traditional or transitional interiors while maintaining floor clearance beneath the shaped apron.

A George I chest on stand is a two-part English storage piece originating in the early 18th century, featuring an upper chest of drawers mounted upon an elevated base or table frame.

These pieces typically feature thin transverse slices of tree branches, often walnut or laburnum, arranged in geometric patterns and laid over solid pine or oak carcases.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, thick veneers, oak drawer linings with grain running front-to-back, and original brass drop handles with split-pin fixings.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, balancing its rich timber tones against neutral walls and simple contemporary accessories.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent veneer lifting, dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax occasionally.
