The Medici Lions are a pair of marble lion sculptures, one of which is a Roman work from the 2nd century AD and the other a companion piece carved by Flaminio Vacca in 1598. They were historically displayed at the Villa Medici in Rome and became iconic subjects for Grand Tour souvenirs.

Traditional bronze sculptures are crafted using the lost-wax casting method, which allows for intricate detail in the mane and musculature. They are often mounted on marble or slate bases and treated with chemical patinas to achieve deep brown or black colouration.

Authenticity is determined by examining the quality of the casting, the nature of the foundry marks or signatures, the depth and wear of the patina, and the composition of the metal alloy appropriate to the estimated period of manufacture.

A classical bronze sculpture can serve as a focal point on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or executive desk, providing a sophisticated contrast to modern minimalist furniture and clean architectural lines.

Bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and occasionally treated with microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from moisture and handling oils. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials.
